A downloadable game for Windows

This game was created as a final project for Game Development I at Arizona State University.

The dungeons and forests of Manic Mage are not for the faint of heart, you need to use your spells to keep on fighting. You need to escape this horrid place, by scavenging your way out.

In Magic Mage, you play as one of 3 mages to progress through the dungeon fighting powerful enemies as you go. Eliminate enemies, collect potions,  keep your distance, and survive as the MANIC MAGE in this fantasy roguelike.

Do you have what it takes to survive?

What went right?

The feel of the levels and how they play in tandem with the combat system is just right, it's not too easy or too difficult. The level design felt just right for the world we were aiming for. We were really happy with how the menus and pausing system turned out, it feels responsive and natural. The path-finding algorithm feels and operates smoothly and it adds to the whole experience.

What didn't quite go as well?

Our team struggled with constant quality communication, which led to our deliverables not being in the best place. Another struggle we had was exactly how to use Github with GameMaker to collaborate on this project. We had originally intended for our game to revolve around a spell combination system where the player could collect spells and make new ones from them, but we quickly realized how much this gameplay piece would take. Our biggest struggle was a lack of realistic scope for this project.

Overall we are quite proud of this game, and it was a really good insight into how difficult it actually is to make games.
